As many of my regulars here will already be aware, I’m a long time Apple fan and have been using my iPod Touch for some time now. The only problem (if there is one) is that I’m pretty frugal when it comes to forking out the money for apps and games, often reading reviews for hours only to leave without purchasing and/or trying the free version first – if it is available. As a result, my iPod will have 50 apps on it one day, then 10 the next … and 100 the day after. Things fluctuate a lot. Needless to say, I've seen a lot of crap. I spend quite a LOT of time with my iPod and I think after a year or so, I’m finally at a position where I can recommend the iStuff that I have found the most useful or worth the money. This stuff of course is compatible with the iPhone as well, and I’ve only specified iPod Touch above as the Wifi requirement has kept me away from many of the online RPGs and other things which require a lot of data transmission. To simplify, an iTouch user might make different choices than an iPhone user - but not necessarily. Anyway, for what it’s worth, here is my list which hopefully will break up the monotony of the Movember posts and the onslaught of Olympic torchbearer posts that are sure to follow. Okay, and off we go … in no particular order:

WifiTrak – Yes, there is a free version which I found buggy and unusable most of the time. This is likely the best 99 cents I spent. With a lot of cool things requiring Wifi you’ll find yourself constantly searching for it and this is a great help. It also remembers your regular connections and automatically connects once found.
Facebook – I’m not actually THAT big of a Facebook user but I do check in daily and sometimes more, when time and Wifi allow. This app is simple and to the point and allows you to do almost anything you can do on the website. Did you know that you can become a fan of this site on Facebook? You sure can – just go HERE. I’m not even sure I paid for this – but I do find I use it often.
Twitterrific – There are of course a LOT of Twitter apps to be had and I’m not even sure this is the best one. In fact, I tried the free one because it was the first one I found and decided it was good enough to fork out the buck for the real deal. Actually, I’m not even sure it is THAT different from the free one I had – but I use it enough that I simply decided to reward the developers with some of my cash. Maybe I’m not that cheap after all.
Bejeweled 2 – Now we start getting into the real fun stuff – the games! I bought this one quite a while ago and after the initial excitement wore off it did not get much play. Well – by me. My 4-year-old son plays this game like it’s about to expire. Lucky too – because it was while he was recently playing that I noticed that they had added the ability to play the Facebook Blitz game – which I’m a fan of already. I find myself playing the Blitz version for hours and I think this version is slightly easier then the online one – meaning I’m now beating friends’ scores who use to constantly hand my ass to me. That alone makes this one worth the money.
Tiger Woods – Without actually taking the time to look up the exact price, I can tell you that at 5 or 6 bucks this one did not get purchased for a LONG time. In fact, I just got it about a month ago and of course I’m now kicking myself that I did not get it earlier. It really is really good – especially considering the system screen and limitations – likely better then what I played on the original Playstation – which really wasn’t THAT long ago, was it? Oh yeah, it was. Still – great game.
Pocket God – What can be said? If you have an iPod Touch or iPhone you probably already have this game. In short, you are the ‘god’ of an island of villagers which you can do with as you please. As well, they release updates really often and so the gameplay is constantly changing. So good – but I bet you knew that already. Oh, only 99 cents as well – a real bargain.
Lux Touch – Like Risk? No – not taking chances – the board game! If so – get this game ASAP. It’s a one player version where you play against 3 computer opponents and it’s pretty true to the original game. Best part? Totally free. Yep – free and fun and awesome and well, just get it.
Price Is Right – Yep, the old TV show – just like you remember it. The first app I paid for and I have gotten my money’s worth for sure. It even has the little mountaineer yodeling as he climbs the mountain game. How cool is that? The big wheel, Plinko, the showcase showdown – all there and as you remember them. They even have the real announcer again and tons of video. Anyways, whatever – if you’re a fan you’ve already left to go get it – if not, you never will.
Cribbage – Another well spent 99 cents. I just looked at the stats and I have played over 300 games of this. If you’re a fan this is a fun game and a great time killer. Well worth the money.
I could go on, but I won’t – however here are a list of honourable mentions that are worth looking into if your looking for new iStuff: Soosiz, Zenomia, Trivial Pursuit, Minimae, Tap Quest, Armado, Inkvaders, iPint and 8 Bit Treasures. Well, that ought to keep you busy for a while for sure. I’m out for now – CHEERS!
