THE STORY
July 2nd, 2007 - 5:12 AM. That is when the idea hit me - Canadians should have a tax amnesty day for buying beer at a reasonable price the Friday before every Canada Day long weekend. You may ask yourself "How drunk does one have to get and how early does said person have to pass out for him to wake at 5:12 AM?" These are both valid questions, but ones that will remain unanswered for now. However, what I WAS thinking about was how much money I had spent the night before - more than double what I would have spent for the same beer in the US. It was Canadian beer! I woke with a start, knowing that I had found my calling. My first plan was to suggest that we should all get FREE BEER but part of reaching your goals is knowing to set realistic ones. So, cheap beer it would be. With your help – we can make this happen. Please sign the petition which will be sent to the Prime Minister at the end of the year and SPREAD THE WORD !
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
There is nothing that us Canadians enjoy more than cold beer and hot long weekends. The combination is the essence of all things Canadian. We Canadians want, no - we DESERVE - a one day amnesty from the punishing taxes that are levied upon our beverage of choice. Is it fair that our neighbours to the south enjoy Canadian beer at a price significantly lower than we pay ourselves? We propose that the Friday before the Canada Day long weekend be known as 'Canucklehead Case Day' (name negotiable) and that all Canadian beer be sold without the taxes our government normally sees fit to make us pay. Let Canada Day be a day that everyone can enjoy a cold Candadian beer at a reasonable price. This is not a request, it is a demand - not a matter of if, but when this will happen. Sign the petition, write your MP, call the Prime Minister and most importantly - SPREAD THE WORD! See below for updates as they are available and let's make this happen.
WHAT' S NEXT?
Well, today is only day one - so far, eleven signatures. Seems like a slow start considering we are talking about cheap beer ... more details to follow as they become available.
