This photo and subsequent video were actually lovingly assembled for the LOOK section of my site - but it was too awesome not to share here as well.
Honestly?! I was speechless when this photo arrived in my inbox - I was simultaneously amazed, confused, angry, delighted and even a little aroused. I had no idea when or why this photo was taken but I was convinced that what was to follow was almost certainly going to be the greatest thing that had ever happened on the face of the earth. Every fabric of my being yearned to watch that little speedboat start to drift away ... straining under the weight, followed shortly thereafter by the elephant drifting away from the shore. Wait - if there was a camera there - is it possible the event was captured on video?! I mean shit - an elephant was about to water-ski - certainly someone would have thought to fire up the Super-8?!
My mind raced as I had trouble typing as I dove headfirst into the intertubes, hungry for answers. I had a few false starts and dead ends -- and then, there it was -- oh yes, there it was:
For the record, the video above is a 1959 home movie shot at the Pittsburgh Bicentennial regatta and features prominently an elephant water-skiing. In fact, I would suggest it is the same elephant as in the photo. If not, I can assure you that there are actually a few different videos around - so the picture is likely legit. Want more info? Tough luck - that's all I got. Luckily that's all I needed. You see - the main problem with having a funny photo section is all these little shits stating that the pictures displayed have been 'shopped'. This is to say that perhaps a few pixels are askew or some crap. To be fair, I could care less if the thing was drawn in crayon as long as its funny! However, its become personal for me and I really hate these punks and their wild accusations. OK - maybe hate is a strong word for what makes up 90% of my traffic base. Its really just that one attribute that makes me feel all stabby. Once again, I'm way off track here - what I'm trying to say is - hey, you just saw a photo AND video of an elephant water-skiing! Cool, eh?
I want to send a special shutout to the people who have taken the time to send me a message about how much you like the site. I went from having a total of zero in the first 2 years of the site and now 3 in the last month. I'm actually starting to wonder if you people are not putting me on. Anyway, I'll assume not a relay my heartfelt thanks - I really do appreciate it. Before I forget, the 2-year-anniversary of the site is coming up on April 1 -- I have absolutely nothing planned at this point, but I'll think of something.
CHEERS!
